Clubs & Societies - Archive Club

Co-curricular activities welcome likeminded students and staff to nurture passions and indulge interests, forging friendships which span across classes and year groups. Our current provision is extensive, numbering at over one hundred and fifty options, with more growing each year. Each week, we seek to celebrate one of the many clubs and societies that form part of the rich fabric of Ë®ÏÉÖ±²¥â€™.

This term a new Archive Club was formed and students in Year 9 have started to audit the archaeological collection. There are 1,500 items in the collection and the students are cross checking a list made in 1991 with what is here. They are making notes about the condition of each object and checking that it is described correctly on the master list. Next year we will start to think about how we want to house the objects so they are better preserved, and today we discussed whether it would be better to house them according to their country of origin or by their material. We will also photograph everything next year and start to do more research into where the objects are from and why they are here at Ë®ÏÉÖ±²¥â€™. They have made an excellent start to a very big project!

On Monday this week, members of the club also spoke to their year group in assembly about an item from the collection that has sparked their interest. Kush spoke about a cuneiform clay tablet, Ayaan told everyone about a Roman coin in the collection, Sulaiman chose two Greek pots and Zayaan spoke about a Bronze figurine from Egypt.
